“The comfort of the Christ Idea finds an abiding place in my consciousness.” Ernest Holmes
As a child, I loved Christmas. I can remember how Christmas Eve seemed to drag on as I looked forward to Christmas morning. I loved the feeling of waking up on Christmas morning to gifts under the tree, spending the day playing with a new toy and enjoying good food. Over the years, as I matured spiritually, my understanding of Christmas and this time of year evolved and Christmas is more of a time to consciously connect with the Christ Consciousness that is reflected in the birth and life of Jesus the Christ. In Science of Mind, the denomination through which I serve as a licensed practitioner, “the phrase ‘Christ Consciousness’ is used to refer to a universal principle of God expressing through humanity.”
The story of Jesus’s birth and life is an example for us all that when we live our lives accepting and embodying that God expresses through us, all manner of transformation and miracles are possible. Although it is difficult for some to accept, this Christ Consciousness is available to us all. We all are one with Spirit but some are more aware of it than others.
One of the primary ways to connect to this aspect of ourselves is through love. Being loving and giving from a place of love is the most divine thing we can do. It is the message of Jesus to love our neighbor as ourselves. The love is shown in sharing with others and in the gathering of family, friends and communities. Love and its primary expression as Christ Consciousness is the reason for the Christmas season. It is why the scripture that God so loved the world that he gave his son is so poignant. However, this truth is limited because we are all the sons and daughters of the Beloved that loves us unconditionally. It is our challenge to accept this at our core and to mirror this same love not only at this time but throughout the year.
In a world where there appears to be hate in many forms, the truth is that the Christ Consciousness continues to emerge now and throughout the year. Let us be bearers of the light and love of the Christ Consciousness that abides within each and everyone of us whether we know it or not.
