“The Creator has a plan for all of us.” “Total Love, Total Joy.” Rickie Byars-Beckwith
We are one with an infinite and divine creator who loves and expresses through us in a myriad of ways. It is the source of all creativity. Whether we know it or not, we are all creators who are here to create in accordance with our inner promptings. The very creativity that we see expressed in art in its many forms is but one example of the multiplicity of ways we creatively express. Michelangelo described this creative process as it expressed through him when he explained that “[e]very block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.” It is our task as beings on this planet to understand what is our expression of creativity and to freely and joyously reveal it to the world.
It took me some time to understand that we are all creative and that what we do in life is the form that our creation takes. It may not be sculpture, painting, music or dancing which are frequently seen as expressions of creativity but nevertheless it is just as beautiful and moving to those who resonate with it.
I saw this point made recently while watching an interview of a musician and a professional basketball player. The host described the musician as an artist implying that the athlete was not. The basketball player corrected the host and said that what he does on the court is also art. He saw himself as an artist and understood that while shooting a three or great defensive skills might not fit a limited view of art, he too was creating art every time he steps on the court.
This is true about all of us. The Creator expresses in, through and as us and it is our privilege in life to create as that which created us creates. As you reflect and contemplate in your daily life, I encourage you to follow your inner promptings and create the masterpiece that only you can create in whatever form that is best suited to your divine gifts and abilities. In doing so, you fulfill the divine plan of the creator as it expresses as you.
